Pensacola Pelicans

Quint and Rishy Studer bought during the middle of 2002 season a minor league baseball team on the brink of insolvency and have turned the team into a fixture of the community. The Pensacola Pelicans have won league championships and have seen several of its players sign Major League contracts.

However, the Pelicans have really focused their energies on offering families affordable, fun entertainment and on giving back to the community. Attendance has risen every year as fans seek more entertainment alternatives, and there is no better alternative than America’s favorite pastime.

The Pensacola Pelicans and WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast have partnered for four years as hosts for “Scoop’s Reading Challenge.”

“We are extremely proud of the success that ‘Scoop’s Reading Challenge’ has experienced since its first year,” says Talmadge Nunnari, Pelicans general manager. “We began with about 1,600 students in 2005 and in 2008 had over 17,500 students reading in our schools.”

The Fish House

The Fish House, The Deck Bar and The Atlas Oyster House have been voted by IN readers as the best restaurant complex in the Pensacola area for five consecutive years. Fresh seafood, bought directly off the boats, and world class service make The Fish House a favorite of both locals and visitors.

“Our customers are our friends and neighbors so we are able to develop real relationships with them,” says Shelley Yates, marketing director. “We find this fortunate because when people celebrate life’s milestones or even if they just want to visit because it is ‘time for lunch,’ they rely on us to make each visit memorable.”
